Digital Nomad’s Guide to Software
I have received no monetary or other incentive to feature the following apps, I just like them. If you’d like me to tell me about an app you like, or feature your software product here, send me an email and we’ll talk.
Nomad
eSIMs are a game changer for travel. No sim card, no data roaming, no brainer. And this app makes it simple, easy, and affordable.
Just be aware that older phones will not support eSIMs.

Endel
I’m surprised how much I use Endel: a generative music app with scenarios like “Deep Work”, “Read”, and “Meditate”, among others.
I find sometimes I need to work and just don’t have time to find the perfect background album. Endel drowns out the noise and helps me get the job done with focus, and without deliberation.

ClassPass
If you’re looking to keep up your fitness routine while traveling, ClassPass is a great app for finding places you can work out, do a spin class, yoga, etc. And though its point system is a little confusing, financially it’s better and easier than paying for day passes and/or creating new memberships at new places all the time.

Pennies
Pennies is a free app and great way to track spending, with options for multiple parallel budgets (helpful when spending in different currencies).
It also breaks down spending by day, week, month, and spending categories. You just need to make the effort to track everything, since I don’t believe there’s an option to connect it to credit or debit cards (yet).

RA Guide
Meetup and Eventbrite are better known and great for learning about social gatherings and other events.
But if you’re looking to dance and party in a new city, RA Guide can help you scope out options.

Insight Timer
Insight appears to have started as a simple, flexible meditation timer app with some nice chime sounds, but it now features a massive library of free guided meditation, breathwork, music, and other user-generated recordings. While the quality of recordings varies considerably, there’s a lot of variety to choose from. You’ll find what works for you.

Othership
From the same company behind the popular Toronto sauna (included in our guide to that city), this is an excellent breathwork app with a couple good free options, and a great selection for paying users. It offers various different types of guided breathwork recordings (calming, energy-raising, “psychedelic”), and the music throughout is phenomenal.
